Meet Dr. Ziad A. Hage

Dr. Ziad A. Hage is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in complex cranial pathologies. With a deep commitment to excellence, Dr. Hage blends cutting-edge surgical and endovascular techniques with a compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.

Dr. Hage’s mission is to transform lives through precise, innovative neurosurgical care. As an ongoing commitment to his field, Dr. Hage is a member of prestigious organizations such as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery, the American College of Surgeons and the American Heart Association. He is also recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Fellow of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr Hage also served on the board of directors and was neurosurgery society liaison for the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Surgeons from 2020 to 2023. As a presenter at multiple prestigious national and international meetings, he continues to share his knowledge and advancements as a leading figure in neurosurgery.

Dr. Hage's equally accomplished educational background laid a strong foundation for his successful career. He completed a residency in neurosurgery as well as a fellowship in cerebrovascular, endovascular and skull base neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to that, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in neurosurgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of Beirut.

Brain Aneurysms

Weak spot within blood vessel (artery) wall causing out-pouching that can balloon and ultimately bleed in the brain causing devastating consequences at times. Dr. Hage offers advanced microsurgical and cutting edge endovascular treatment options for brain aneurysms, including trial devices only available at few select centers across the USA.

Brain and Spinal Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs)

Brain AVMs are an abnormal tangle of blood vessels in the brain that can bleed and cause seizures as well as stroke symptoms. They can sometimes also occur in the spinal cord. Dr. Hage offers advanced microsurgical, endovascular and radiosurgery treatments options for AVMs.

Brain and spinal Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs)

Abnormal connections between blood vessels occurring in the brain or spine that can cause bleeding or stroke symptoms. Dr. Hage offers advanced microsurgical, endovascular and radiosurgery treatments options for these lesions.

Cavernomas

Leaky malformation of blood vessels that have a mulberry appearance that can bleed and cause seizures or stroke symptoms. Dr. Hage offers advanced microsurgical and radiosurgery treatments options for these lesions.

Moyamoya Disease

A condition causing narrowed brain arteries, leading to strokes. Surgical bypass procedures restore proper blood flow and reduce risks. Dr Hage performs brain bypass surgery using cutting edge flow assisted surgical techniques (FAST).

Skull Base surgery

Precision microsurgery for complex tumors, vascular issues, and nerve disorders at the base of the skull.

Brain tumors

Whether benign or cancerous, Dr Hage treats a wide variety of tumor cases such as meningiomas, gliomas, and brain metastases, offering a multifaceted approach involving microsurgery, tumor embolization if needed, and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS)

Carotid artery disease

Atherosclerosis and plaque formation can cause a blockage in the carotid artery, sometimes requiring treatment. Dr Hage can perform carotid endarterectomy or carotid angioplasty and standing to treat this condition.

Intracranial stenosis

Atherosclerosis and plaque formation can cause a blockage in the arteries of the brain leading to stroke. This condition sometimes requires treatment and Dr Hage can perform intracranial angioplasty and stent placement if needed, or bypass surgery depending on the case at hand.

Ischemic Stroke

When an artery in the brain is blocked due to a blood clot or ruptured plaque, Dr Hage can intervene emergently to reopen the vessel using mechanical thrombectomy.

Head Trauma

Dr Hage treats head trauma conditions and offers minimally invasive options, such as middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization for treatment of subdural hematoma (SDH).
